The lonely lynx

The lonely heart of a young boy of fourteen years old was there buried under the sheets of the cold bed.

“Blue and sad” were the only adjectives which could describe his gloomy bedroom. Drops of blood could be found on the grey walls, on the furniture around. He always kept hymself inside that dark state of mind, no matter if it was slowly killing him.

He had no friends, he’s family barely noticed him. Sometimes, he looked hymself in the mirror wanting to die

“Someone! Please, help me…” he screamed in his thoughts and then madly hit the mirror, leaving painfully bruises all over his hands.

He wept, begged and fought so hard to free hymself from that horrible place in his mind.

Despite of everything, music and art were always there to rescue him. He spent a lot of time writing songs and singing

“This is freedom itself… my lovely scape from reality…” He whispered to hymself while admiring his poems and songs.

He always knew he had to save hymself no matter what, but everytime he tried to bloom and shine, bad thoughts grabbed him by the neck, crushing his little dreams, beating again his dreamy heart.

Tired of living and being hurt by hymself, he took a bunch of pill, put them straight in his mouth and as they were going through his throat he felt as if he were flying. That day was rainy and cold, but he felt warm in his chest, a burning feeling suposed to kill him, but anyway didn’t

A very old man with enormous wings

This time, I’ve brough you all the summary of this short story, which to me is kinda weird. I hope you all like the summary and give yourself time to read the whole story.

“A very old man with enormous wings is a short story written by GABO. The author introduces the normal life of Pelayo, Elisenda and their newborn child, who during a rainy day met an old winged man lying on the courtyard of their house. The event was so spontaneous and scary that they decided to call a wise woman, which told them that the old winged man was an angel who had came to take their sick child. After that, they were cautious of the angel and locked him in a chicken coop, but it was useless because the child healed days after the angel’s arrival. The parents thought that maybe the angel needed help to get back, so they gave him provissions for 3 days expecting him to leave, but he didn’t and instead of it the neighbors noticed the angel and all around the chicken coop was getting crowded by people who wanted to see him. It was so crowded that Elisenda charged five cents to see the angel and the family started getting lots of money. The angel got very famous in town, which made the Father Gonzaga meet the angel; he got impressed and tried to talk to him in Latin to see if the angel was real, but he got no response, which made him write a letter for the highest court, who told him to do nothing because it was not an urgency. One day, the show of a girl who became a spider came to town, it was cheaper to see her and people could ask her any questions. Soon, people forgot about the angel and went to see the spider girl. Anyway, Pelayo and Elisenda got rich and decided to build a mansion and keep the chicken coop for the Angel. Years passed by and the Angel was getting annoying. He also got sick one day, but when he recovered, he flew far away from the house and left”

Plot map:
1- Pelayo’s newborn had a fever because of the smell of dead crabs in the house
2- When Pelayo was throwing away the dead crabs, he saw an old winged man laying on the courtyard of his house
3- Pelayo and his wife Elisenda got scared and called a wise woman, which told them the old winged man was an angel who had came to take his sick child
4- The parents were cautious for if the angel tried to take their child and then they locked him in a chicken coop, but the newborn healed and nothing bad happened
5- The neighbours noticed the angel and the courtyard got crowded of people who wanted to see him. Elisenda noticed this and decided to charge five cents to see the angel
6- One day, the show of a girl who became a spider came to town. It was cheaper and people could talk to her, so everyone decided to forget about the angel and went to see the spider girl instead
7- Pelayo and Elisenda got rich anyway, and decided to build a mansion and leave the chicken coop for the angel
8- Days passed by and the angel got sick and the family got worried
9- Suddenly, the angel healed, he flew away from the house and left

That’s all guys!

An occurrence at the Owl Creek bridge (Summary)

Today I’ll show you the new summary I wrote for Written English Class.
If you could give me feedback, I’d appreciate it a lot~

“The story “An occurrence at owl creek bridge” talks about a prisoner named Peyton Farquhar, who was executed during the American civil war between the southern and northers soldiers. One day, the prisoner was trying to burn the owl creek bridge, but he got captured by northern soldiers who after a few hours hanged him. While he was hanged, he could feel as if he were scaping, and also imagined the whole situation and heard things that weren’t happening. Sadly, when he was imagining those things, he was actually dying. He never escaped. He died hanged from the bridge”

Also, I’m gonna add the plot’s structure

  1. The prisoner Peyton Farquhar was on a bridge with soldiers by his side.
  2. The soldiers wanted to hang the prisoner because he tried to burn the Owl Creek Bridge.
  3. The general told the soldier to hamg him
  4. The prisoner was thinking about how to scape
  5. The soldiers hanged the prisoner
  6. While being hanged, the prisoner felt as if the rope broke and then fell in the river
  7. He started seeing, hearing and listening lots of things while he was in the river
  8. He reached land and then went home.
  9. He found his wife, hugged her and then everything went dark. He was dead. He Imagined everything while dying.

Nuclear Courage

Few days ago, I read a story named “Nuclear Courage” written by Julian Cuero, another Icesi’s foreing languages student. Nuclear Courage tells the story of Sumiteru, a Japanese survivor of the North American nuclear attacks to Hiroshima and Nagazaki. Our new task was to write how we’re related to the story… here is the result.

“The only war I’ve been involved in is a war with myself. Anytime I find myself in a quiet place, my mind is bombed by lots of negative thoughts. All the destruction I can see is in my imagination. Sometimes, all wonderful things in my life become a desert full of the worst possible things that can happen to a person. The war feeling is really strong, I can feel my mouth dried, my heart beating faster and faster, my breathing heavy and out of control. This situation makes me get away from people, which lets the loneliness embrace me with its bare cold hands. What could I do? What could other people do for me? Maybe there’s nothing that anyone can do… But one thing’s for sure: even though I can’t help feeling this way almost everyday, what encourages me the most is to help other people. Seeing their smiling faces after I’ve done something for them, is the warmest feeling I could ever experience. That’s how I see myself reflected in Sumieru, because no matter what, even when he lost everything he had, he never stopped helping others”

That’s all!

Second Summary

This time the instructions for Vanessa Marin and I were to write a summary of the story “Dreams of freedom” written by Dana Isabel Castillo Laso, an Icesi’s foreing languages student. Here are the results:

“Dreams of freedom” written by Dana Isabel Castillo Laso, tells the story of a Jewish young girl named Emma during the begining of the world war II in Munich, Germany. One day, Emma went out of her house to go to school. Suddenly, she got captured  by German policemen, who took her to Dachau concentration camp. There, lonely and sad, she reconforted herself with her favorite photo album, which was really important to her. Days passed by and while she was in the concentration camp she met Annette, who became her best friend; and Oswald, a German policeman who fell in love with her. The three of them planned to scape and then, when they tried it, Emma forgot her photo album. When she was looking for it, she was surprised by a German policeman, who took her to the general. After that, the general decided to execute and lead her to an inevitable destiny.

If you could please give us feedback to improve our writing skill, we’d appreaciate it a lot!

First summary

In Written English class Gilary and I had to write a summary of the text “learning to read and write” by the author Dan Kurland. This was our first attempt

This is the second version:

As the author Dan Kurland says in its text Learning to Read and Write for writers, it is necessary to become good readers. Only when writers know how to read well, they can express their own ideas. When someone is a good reader, that person knows how to analize different kinds of texts and also understand how other writers use the language to communicate their ideas. By doing this, writers can mimic and improve their writting skills”.

My first “Vignette”

Last Written English class, our teacher told us to write a vignette (which is a kind of descriptive text) in only 8 minutes, which I felt as if they were only 2 minutes because I couldn’t write as much as I would have liked to…
Here are the results:
-“I first saw him months ago, waiting for me outside his home. The weather was really hot and we were both sweating. We did not shake hands. He only said “hi”and invited me inside. We were strangers, that was everything about us. He didn’t know he was letting me in, not only in his house, but in his heart…”
That’s it! Next time, I’ll try to write more about anything that comes to my mind.

Bye, bye!

A derby writing…?

Ok…

In my first day of Written English class we did a “derby writing”, in which you are supossed to write as much as you can about anything you want in a few minutes. This is the result of my first derby writing:

“This is my first time in a derby writing and I don’t really know what to talk about. Well, maybe I can write about Daniel, he’s the person I’m thinking about almost everytime so… why not? I can’t stop thinking of the sparks in his wonderful grey-green eyes and the weird warm feeling I get when I touch his skin. I remember myself 8 months ago, always afraid of having my heart broken again. But then I found Daniel and something clicked inside my chest. The day I met him we played videogames and later on we played the piano together…”

As you can notice, I couldn’t finish what I was writing about…

After the derby writing finished, we had to give our texts to our classmates sitting next to us and then he or she had to give us feedback and ask 2 questions related to the text we wrote.

The person that gave me feedback was Mapi (María Paula) and she told me she found my text pretty cute. She also asked me these questions:

– What are your plans with Daniel in the future?
We want to finish our majors and we also want to have our own apartment or house in a residential complex. Those are our plans for now.

– Would you like to marry to Daniel?
Of course, we want to get married after we finish our majors. When we get graduated, we will plan it.

That’s all for this entry!
Soon I’ll tell you more about my day to day!

Who I am

Young apprentice writer writings

“Man is not worried by real problems so much as by his imagined anxieties about real problems”

– Epictetus.

Hi! I hope you all are doing fine!

My name’s Axel, I’m an 18 year old young artist who is still trying to improve his skills as a singer and as a writer. I was born on December, 30th 2001 in Cali, Valle del Cauca. After my birth, my parents decided to move to Cartago, Valle del Cauca, so they could find a job eassily and start a new life there. When I was 8 years old, I told my parents I wanted a little brother, so they planned it and then my brother Joshua came to life on June 1st, 2009. Joshua is the smartest little kid I could ever met. I do not even know how, but he can understand English as if it were his native language. I consider we are not only a happy family but also a team, because we fight for our goals and we always help one another.

I’m such a dreamy boy. When I was a kid, I had this weird desire to be kidnapped by aliens, so they could give me extraordinary powers, which would help me stop famines and violence around the world. Yes, I know, it’s kinda funny and crazy. At the moment, I dream of being a great and well known artist. I would love to sing to lots of people on a big stage, I want to feel the adrenaline, emotion and conexion with everyone while sharing with them big parts of my heart and my soul through music.

I’m sure all of you know my name, my age, the things that I love and all that stuff. That’s why today I want to talk about all the things that are hidden inside my chest, things that maybe none of you know about. I want to do this because sometimes I feel like I’m choking on my own words and I don’t know who to talk to.

The person that you usually talk to at college during or outside classes, is a very different person when he’s alone at home or when he has plenty of free time on vacation. Maybe you don’t know, but sometimes I get lots of anxiety attacks and I just don’t know what to do to keep my mind quiet. When I get one of those attacks, I panicked and start breathing heavily without any control. Sometimes, I just want to sleep forever and never wake up. I also get a feeling of emptiness and loneliness. Then I start crying for no reason. I don’t know what to do when those thoughts get inside my head, but please, if you see me like that one day, remember that everything I need is a bit of company and a warm hug.

I’ve been through a lot since 2015, maybe all those problems that I had are the reason why I’m an anxious and eassily depressive person. I will tell you all about my past in the next entries…

Hope you all have a wonderful year!
